PostBus
PostBus is the largest public transport bus company in Switzerland. In 2024 it had around 3000 employees and transported 183 million passengers country-wide. PostBus’s vehicles run on 950 different lines, service around 11 339 stops and each day cover a distance equivalent to nine times the circumference of the globe.
Energy and climate
20 per cent of CO2 emissions from public transport in Switzerland currently come from Postbuses. PostBus is converting its entire vehicle fleet to electric drive by 2035. The company is relying on regionally produced green electricity. The transformation is being carried out on the basis of a nationally oriented and cantonally coordinated plan. This will enable PostBus to take a more targeted and cost-efficient approach to building up its electric fleet and the associated charging infrastructure, to the benefit of public transport customers.
Targets
Under the EEC initiative, PostBus has pledged to meet the following targets:
1. Increasing energy efficiency
Benchmark: 2021
- Target for 2026: +5%
- Target for 2030: +20%
2. Switching to renewable energies
Thermal energy and fuels
- Target for 2026: 3% renewables
- Target for 2030: 6% renewables
Electricity
All PostBus’s electricity already comes from renewable sources.
3. Producing green power
Photovoltaics
- Production in 2021: 8.8GWh
- Target for 2030: 26MWp

Measures
Like all the participants, PostBus has undertaken to implement the joint measures. In addition, PostBus is also implementing the following individual measures:
1. Net zero from 2040
Group target for 2030: Swiss Post’s in-house operations to be climate-neutral (emissions to be reduced by 42 per cent compared with 2021, the remaining emissions to be offset)
2. Buses using alternative drive systems
2030: +900 battery buses and fuel-cell buses
